Who says only pets can eat worms? Bug diets are very common to least 2 billion people worldwide according to Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Recipes can be found everywhere and online. For this segment, the Entomology Department of Iowa State University publishes on their website several bug recipes that you can try on your next food trip. Here’s the recipe of their Mealworm Fried Rice!
Ingredients:
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. oil
3/4 cup water
1/4 cup chopped onions
4 tsp. soy sauce
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
1 cup white rice
1 cup oven roasted mealworms
Directions:
-Scramble egg in a saucepan, stirring to break egg into pieces.
-Add water, soy sauce, garlic and onions. Bring to a boil.
-Add and stir in rice.
-Cover and remove from heat and let stand five minutes.
-Stir in the oven roasted mealworms.
